Grade 6

World History / Geography: Ancient Civilizations

The topic of sixth grade Social Studies is Ancient World Civilizations. Our text is History Alive! by TCI. We will explore the civilizations of Ancient Egypt, China, India, Israel, Greece and Rome. It is an exciting course of study, with many opportunities for interdisciplinary projects, which are projects that include more than one subject such as reading a historical story and writing a Language Arts paper about it, or learning to write hieroglyphics.

Grade 7

World History / Geography: Medieval and Early Modern Times

The seventh grade course is a year-long course which encompasses a study of world history from the fall of Rome to the French Revolution. Included in this interdisciplinary study of peoples are regional studies of Asian, European, South American, and African cultures. A wide range of concepts from the social studies will be incorporated into the course, including geography, economics, political science, history, anthropology, and sociology.

Grade 8

U.S. History / Geography

The eighth grade social studies course is an interdisciplinary study of the U.S. from the American Revolution to the First World War guided by the state framework for the social studies. This study of America’s past includes concepts and skills from the social sciences (geography, economics, political science, history, anthropology, and sociology) and is integrated into the three sets of goals and curriculum strands of the framework.

Units of study include: The geography of the U. S.; the creation of the U.S. government; the Westward Movement; the Civil War; industrial growth of the U. S.; and the development of the U.S. as a world power. This will lead into the 11th grade course of study at the high school level.
