Rights and Responsibilities

Rights of Students

 

A.       Receive a meaningful education to prepare them to take their place in an adult society.

B.       Express their opinions and have them heard and respected as long as the opinions are expressed in a responsible and timely way.

C.     Have a positive learning environment, including:

  1. Reasonably quiet and comfortable place to work
  2. Contemporary curriculum materials
  3. Reasonable amount of individual attention and instruction
  4. Knowledge of what is expected of them. The teacher will have written classroom standards in a conspicuous location in the classroom. Students will receive a copy of these academic and behavioral standards.
  5. A clean, attractive and functional school

D.         Be respected an as individual human being and to receive constructive criticism.

E.         Learn according to their ability and achievement level and be elevated according to their ability and achievement.

F.         A full period of instruction (teachers, as well as students, must be on time for class.)

G.         Receive fair and consistent treatment in class, which includes:

  1. A clear understanding and explanation of rules and consequences
  2. A right to be heard, and have witnesses heard, within reason, when there is a conflict.

H.         Attend school without having their person or property threatened or harassed.

I.          Learn skills that aid in self-discipline and problem solving.

J.          Learn human relation skills which promote positive inter­personal communication.

K.         Due process under the school constitution.

Responsibilities of Students

 

  1. Students must attend school regularly and punctually.
  2. Students must conform to all state, city, district, and school behavioral guidelines.
  3. Students should obey promptly all directions of teachers and other adults in authority.
  4. Students should be diligent in their studies and make an honest effort to cooperate fully with others.
  5. Students should be tolerant of other ethnicities, religious beliefs, and culture.
  6. Students must respect the rights of others, including the right for teachers to teach and for students to learn.
