Grade 6
Language Arts 6
This is an integrated approach to the language arts, which means a variety of techniques are used to develop students’ reading, writing, and communication skills. Our classes use a literature-based approach, which includes reading for comprehension, accuracy and fluency. We will study setting, characterization, plot and point of view. A literature anthology text is supplemented by novels such as Tuck Everlasting, The Red Pony, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Dragonwings, or Child of the Owl.
Composition skills focus on the writing process of pre-writing--draft--revision--final copy. This is an age when students can consolidate their writing skills in spelling, grammar, and organization.
