Disaster Preparedness
Each year the Site Council (comprised of parents, students, teachers and administrators) reviews and adopts the school safety plan. This plan is submitted to the District Office and follows State and Federal guidelines for disaster/emergency preparedness.
Westborough has purchased a heavy duty container which is on the blacktop and it contains all of our school disaster supplies (water, first aid, tools, food, blankets etc.) Our PTA and local businesses got us started with supplies. Each year we will add to them. Each year we have the required Fire/Earthquake and Lockdown Drills to train students and teachers. The staff will undergo a simulation activity each year. Each staff member has been trained to shut off gas, electricity, or water if needed in an emergency.
We will continue to develop and train all staff and students in the areas of disaster safety and emergency preparedness.
Emergency Procedures
In the event of an emergency which might require student evacuation, there are procedures for parents to follow which will help ensure a smooth transition when picking up a child from school. In ordinary circumstances a parent would report to the office to pick up a child. In an emergency where students may be evacuated from the building, parents would meet in Westborough Park near the baseball diamond. Westborough staff will meet with them and will have parents sign for their children. Please bring ID—by law we cannot release a child to an adult without ID. Runners will be sent to get them, and the students will then reunite with their parents.
At the beginning of the school year, you are given an emergency card to fill out and list people who may pick up your child from school. Please fill out as many names as you can. If you have more than four, write them on the back of the card. Again, adults must pick up a child and have a valid ID! This is for your child’s safety, and we take this very seriously here at Westborough.
