English Language Development

Grade 6

This course is designed for students for whom English is a second language.  Students are placed into classes based on the California mandated CELDT test level. (California English Language Development Test) All classes emphasize reading comprehension, grammar, oral presentation, spelling, vocabulary and non-fiction literature comprehension. Novels will accompany the reading comprehension sections, including: The Cay, Hatchet, Mississippi Bridge, Maniac Magee and Nightjohn.

Grade 7

This English course is open to students grades 6 - 8 who speak English as a second language. Students are placed into the class according to their score on the mandated California English Language Development Test. (CELDT) Emphasis is placed on speaking, reading comprehension, composition, grammar and vocabulary. Literary selections include grade-level social studies and science curriculum.
