Absence Procedures

When Your Child Is Absent

Parents are requested to call the Attendance Secretary at 877-8848 on the first day of absence (no later than 12:00 noon). If no telephone contact has been made, the secretary will initiate a phone contact.   All students must provide a signed and dated note with the reason for the child's absence when the child returns to school, even if a phone call has been received. The note must be delivered to the Attendance Secretary by 8:15 A.M. on that day so that the student may be issued an admit slip. The admit slip must be signed by each of the student's teachers during the course of that day of return. We request that parents write the total note and not have the child write it with only the parent signature.

Detention is assigned for each day your child does not bring a valid note. Detentions are not rescinded.

If your child is home recuperating and able to do schoolwork, we invite you to ask a classmate or friend of your child to stop by their teachers and pick up homework.

Leaving Campus

If a student has a doctor, dentist, or other appointment during the school day they should:
  1. Come to the Attendance Office before school with a note from home to receive a pass to leave campus.
  2. Check out with the Attendance Office before leaving campus. Only parent/guardian or an "authorized" adult may pick up the student to leave campus.
  3. Upon returning from the appointment, the student should check in with the Attendance Office for an admit to class slip.

Make-Up Work

If a student’s absence is projected to be three or more consecutive days, a parent may request the school to arrange for homework / make-up assignments. If the absence is less than three days, the student should contact friends in his / her class to get assignments. In cases where absences will exceed three weeks, a home teacher may be requested. Students may request make-up work when suspended and the teacher must give it; however the teacher does not have to give grade credit.
